A little before and after of our new picnic shelter we finished last month. All the lumber for this shelter came from Bowers Farm. It was sawed from the many trees that fell during Hurricane Helene.

They have been raised again with a new purpose.

During deliveries this past week, as we were walking back to the car, the customer kindly yelled from their doorstep, “Thank you for feeding our family!”

It almost caught us off guard. Absolutely that’s what we do. We raise the best food for our family and yours. It’s an honor. It’s a joy. It’s definitely hard work and in the heat of the summer we question our decision to do this…often. But it’s so rewarding!

Yet food is so readily accessible and available the gratitude for it is sometimes lacking. Often we don’t think about what it takes and who it takes to get food to our plates.

This shout meant so much! Supporting local agriculture means you see the face that raises your food - you buy from them on their farm, at the farmers market, or maybe it’s delivered to your doorstep by them. Knowing your farmer means you know a little more about where your food comes from. You can give thanks for them by name or, ya know, even in person with a friendly, “Thank you for feeding our family!” Tell them! It will mean so much!

We closed out Farm Camp 2025 yesterday.
Last week. Best week. Last day. BEST DAY!
It’s been an incredible summer and this last week may have been hot but so amazing!
It was awesome to celebrate another 5 year camper this week as well who told her mom on the way home, “I got my five year pin today and I can’t wait until I get my ten year pin.”

The dream of Farm Camp may have started as a way to teach children about farming and agriculture but it has become so much bigger than that! It’s a place where kids get to be outside and enjoy nature, it’s a place where all kids are welcome

Now for some rest, but if you know us you know our brains are already churning with ideas for year 6!

Today our campers got to meet the Flerd, our flock of sheep and herd of cows that graze together!

They also got to walk through the food forest and snack on some blueberries and wild blackberries.

Day 2. Week 4. The Garden!
Today we learned about the garden, what is going on above the soil and below! We use our garden as a launching point to talk about crop farmers and to remind the campers that even if you can’t have a chicken where you live, EVERYONE can’t plant a flower, herb, or vegetable plant!

Every kiddo is now the proud caretaker of three composting worms in their very own worm farm too!

Whew! It may be hot but we’ve got the COOLEST group of campers this week!

In all the chaos of feeding animals, fixing the well, putting together orders, planning for the week, getting set for camp, we almost miss this.

The reason we do what we do. The beauty of creation. The grounding of this peace. The power of this land and what it can provide for us when we care for it, including sunsets to remind us of what’s most important.

May you remember to stop, even in the chaos of this week, to give thanks for the land and what it provides: beauty, sustenance, and peace.

Redfoot grows lots of vegetables throughout the year but today they brought an extra special one to share with our campers - sweet corn! Campers learned about each part of the corn, got to shuck a piece, and then enjoy it fresh. From Alex and Caitlin’s farm to ours, straight from the field, fresh as it gets!

This week we are Farming Through the Seasons and have visiting farmers sharing about what farming looks like for them to farm throughout the year.

We kicked off today with Megan and Hadley from Just A Farm Dairy. Our campers got to learn so much about dairy cows and the coolest part was them all making butter! Our all day campers even made ice-cream with some Just A Farm milk!

Today we traveled to Australia to learn about wool and all the things this sustainable fiber are used for - how it’s produced and then processed! Shoutout to @thefragrantherd for the wool board we used today and Victoria is the author of the book we spotlighted today!

Of course we had some yarn crafts for the kids including teaching our oldest campers how to crochet! And although our sheep on the farm are a hair sheep, they all got to meet Bella Boots Bowers today and she loved all the attention and pets!

Tomorrow is our last day of Farming Around the World, week 2 of Farm Camp! It’s been a whirlwind traveling all over the globe this week - I wonder where we’re headed to tomorrow?!

Today we traveled to Asia to learn how rice is grown! In talking about the versatility of rice we also talked about chickens and ducks and all the reasons to raise them. Our younger kiddos got to do some rice art and our older ones dyed rice and then created art with it.

It was an amazing day with perfect weather for farm camp! We love a light breeze and some cloud coverage!

Can’t wait to see where we travel to next as we continue to Farm Around the World this week!

Today we visited Central and South America learning about how bananas grow as we Farm Around the World this week!

We also visited the permaculture food forest where we got to see pear trees, apple trees, peach trees, grape vines, blueberry bushes, and many of our free range farm kids picked wild blackberries for the first time!

Our all day campers baked banana bread muffins, fed all the animals, and got a great start on their project this week!

55 campers on farm this week. Day 1 of week 2 and already had so much learning, laughter, and memories!

@jennpadenstanley is such a good sport! Our Jalapeño Cheddar brats are actually one of her favorites so when we knew she was coming for dinner, we knew we had to throw some on the grill.

Rotational grazing isn’t just better for animals — it’s better for the planet.

By moving our ruminants, lovingly referred to as our Flerd (flock of sheep and herd of cows), to fresh grass we mimic the natural herd behavior to move that promotes:

I protested incubating duck eggs, multiple times.
We don’t need anything else to care for or feed.
“But daddy, I want to hatch them and sell them.”
Oh. Well who am I to dampen a child’s entrepreneurial spirit?

So far two have hatched with more coming by morning we’re sure. But at this point I doubt she sells any, she’s smitten with them for sure and is thinking of names. We’ll see. But regardless, the joy she has had from this is worth all of it.

Like I said, this is the good farm stuff.
